Frequently asked questions.
FAQ’s
Does Bloom & Bounty have a brick & mortar shop?
We do not have a shop or retail location. We design out of a private studio at our centrally-located Nashville home and offer our flowers & products for pick-up or delivery. Additionally, Bloom and Bounty at Home products may be shipped nationally or picked up locally.
What is the size of your cutting garden?
Our home is located on only an acre in urban Nashville, and we utilize as much of the land as possible for growing. A large portion of our property is devoted to perennial beds, which offer us those special cut flowers stems such as peony, viburnum, hydrangea, tulips, daffodils, hellebore, ferns, garden roses & vines. Our annual cut-flowers are spread between two gardens- an upper garden for heat-loving annuals, and a lower garden for early spring blooms. Currently, the combined growing space is around 1/3 of an acre, but it seems each year finds us encroaching into the kitchen garden and remaining patch of lawn to claim more flower growing area!
Why can’t you guarantee the availability of certain flowers or colors if you are growing them yourself?
Flowers have natural bloom cycles— for instance, in nature, you don’t find sweet-peas in the fall, and you don’t find zinnias in the spring. Therefore, our arrangements are always changing according to what the garden is offering at the moment. We believe in nurturing the land that we grow on, and use a regenerative approach to gardening which works with, and not against, the diverse biosphere living in the soil. We use a no-till method of growing because we know that healthy soil yields the most beautiful plants. However, growing outdoors at the mercy of the weather is both a gift and a curse. It grounds us in our humanity as our best laid plans are often thwarted by unpredictable weather. Thus, growing seasonally demands that we attend to & take in the beauty that each variety of flower is producing during its finite lifespan- sometimes as little as two weeks. Something about the seasonality and ephemeral nature of old-fashioned, local flowers is worthy of our often scattered attention spans, and feels like catching the tail end of that timeless thread of what links us to ages past. The downside of old-world flowers, of course, is that we can’t predict exactly what will be available when, nor can we guarantee a color or a variety as flowers fail for many different reasons. But, if you get to know & trust our old-fashioned aesthetic, we can guarantee an array of beautiful blooms and foliage that is sure to bring a smile to your face.
I’d love to grow my own flowers, but I don’t know where to start. Help!
We have just the thing for you! We offer many workshops devoted to DIY old-fashioned cutting gardens. These workshops get down to brass tacks…where to locate your garden? How to prepare the soil? Where to purchase seeds? Which varieties should you grow first, and when/what method does each like to be sown? How and when to fertilize growing seedlings? What stage do you harvest for longest vase life? All these questions, and many more are covered. Sharing the knowledge gained over the many years of gardening is a joy- subscribe to our newsletter to stay tuned for all future workshop announcements!
Is it possible to schedule workshops or events for a private group?
Yes! We’ve noticed that attendees of our events often start as strangers and end as friends after a night of arranging/wreath-making and good conversation, but we also know that sometimes you want to have a girls’ night or birthday celebration with just your people. And we get it! Private workshops are a great way to sprinkle some beauty & learning into a gathering of friends, and we are more than happy to talk through all the possibilities!
Is it possible to schedule a private garden mentoring session?
Absolutely! Meredith loves to talk gardening! General consults about how to establish your own cut-flower garden are available at an hourly rate of $50 at your home. During your time together, she will help you locate the prime growing area, guide you through seed selection and growing methods, & hand-hold you through the start-up phase of your on-going gardening project.
Do you have gift certificates available?
Gift certificates are available here in our online catalogue, and can be used for workshops, bouquet subscriptions, seasonal arrangements, or anything else available in our online store.
Why should I sign up for your emails?
So happy you asked! Due to the small size of our growing gardens, we can only offer a limited number of flowers each season, and our newsletter recipients are the first to know about availability, limited-capacity workshops, discounts & give-aways, product sales and updates about all that’s happening at Bloom & Bounty throughout the year. Enter your email address at the bottom of any page here on our website. We promise not to spam you :)
